Thoughts:
I love bike riding. Just love it. I love everything about bikes. Yet, I quickly give my bike to experts to repair, to service. Not enough time to work out how the bottom bracket is put together, or how the brake pads should be aligned. So I give the job to others (and pay for it). I do that for alot of stuff, be it repairs around the house, car servicing or surfboard fixes. It's funny how as we have 'progressed' we in a sense, become pretty much useless in look after ourselves. Our field of expertise becomes pretty narrow and learning anything away from that field seems too difficult as we have little time, and the advanced 'stuff' that we have (like our cars) make it almost impossible to be self sufficient.

I admire the generation before mine. My dad can pretty much put his hand to anything. I don't necessarily think it is a case of being more skilled, it is more of an attitude- "I can learn how to fix this. I can learn about how this thing works." My attitude too often is "I don't have the time or energy to work this out, I might as well pay someone to do it for me." or "My leisure time is too important, it is worth someone else doing it for me." Tell you what, I'd be screwed if I had to fiend for myself. Narrow skill base, but more importantly, not the right attitude.

Challenge to self...
