The last few Saturday mornings I have been going for fairly long road rides, about 85 km. I've been riding by myself, a couple of ours lost in my own thoughts, enjoying the early morning air, taking things pretty easy. This Saturday I headed out for a 'shop ride', basically a ride that leaves from a bike shop, is organised into different groups, all with different average speeds and distances, and then has everyone meeting at basically the same time at a coffee shop.
Chatting with guys in the bunch, pushing yourself to keep up with the front pack, searching the depths of the 'hurt locker' as you hit yet another hill, having a blast on the way home as everyone tries to sprint away, chatting over a coffee about bikes, adventures. I rode 85 km, a very different 85 km.
Just an example of how it's the journey that counts.
