Long time dead

Many years ago Em and I were in the south of Wales doing some mountain biking in some of there purpose built trails. It's a great area to ride, and, as they have done in places like Scotland and New Zealand, the welsh have realised the tourism benefit of having a series of mountain bike trails dotted around the country, each with some form of 'trail head' area, each fully mapped. It's a great place, and a great holiday.

At a particular trail head, where we camped, a couple, with their two children, were living in a caravan as the bike shop/cafe that they were going to run was being completed. They had taken the gamble and decided that running this enterprise was what they wanted to do. Living in a small caravan in the depths of a welsh winter would be no ones idea of having a good time, the trials were only just being utilised, so to think that the bike shop and cafe would be frequented throughout the year by hungry riders was indeed taking a big gamble. Yet this couple took that gamble and went for it.

Two things to note; at the time, they seemed really happy and, now the south of Wales is considered one of the 'go to' mountain biking destinations in the world, so a figure, if they stuck to it, they would be doing ok now!

We are a pretty conservative couple, Em and I, but perhaps it's time to give something different a bit of a go. In taking off and checking things out, we are going ourselves permission. I think we may just need to be brave enough to not over think things too much.

There is that wonderful quote (can't think of the source) that people throw out when someone over analysed the risks in a new venture,  perhaps we need to place it somewhere prominent;

"You're a long time dead".
