Final Fling

We leave the west next week. Time is passing quickly to get everything that needs doing, done. So a final fling with my best mate Frank down Margaret River way for some mountain biking and surfing was quickly organised with the blessing of the wonderful Em.

And what a couple of days it was! We got to Dunsborough at about 11am for a spin around the single track  north of there- pretty technical, slippery and fun. Then we were invited to an old friends place for a lovely lunch and catch up. At 2 pm we met Paul near Margarets, who was to guide us through some of the best single track I have enjoyed- ever! With the beautiful landscape, grippy surface, friendly locals and amazing trails, it was 3 hours I will not be forgetting in a hurry! The post ride beer at Paul's place was a real treat as well.

We then headed further south to meet up with Dan and Alex, who live in a straw bale house. We were treated to a great meal, great company and great beer from Dan, who is a local winemaker- Gold!

Woke up early on the Tuesday for a nice breakfast and then went surfing. Checked out Ellenbrook and the devastation from the recent fires and then hit a break close to Lefthanders. Not huge and pretty crowded, but a lot of fun all the same.

Then it was back on the road, stopping off at Dunsborough for a feed and some nice coffee and then home.

An amazing couple of days with a wonderful friend, who I will miss as we journey east.

Nothing like taking a break from amazing single track to talk bikes!

Straw bale digs for the night- beautiful house in a beautiful location.

The destructive nature of fire- Ellenbrook

Lefthanders et al from the car park- good times!

  1. Sounds like you had a great time down south. It must be hard saying goodbye to the place and the friends you have grown to know so well. But im sure that the weeks and months to come will be an awesome journey! I applaud you guys for breaking free from the 'norm' and giving something different a crack. We are very much looking forward to seeing more of the Lane family in the future. In case your gps fails you....Remember, just keep heading east. Be safe, good luck and have a brilliant time.
