Rode to work today. It was a beautiful morning with little wind and sunny skies. Not much traffic on the road meant that I could really enjoy the road and settle into the climbs along the way. Got to work refreshed, if a little cold. Good
On the way home I began to notice a knocking near my rear wheel. I thought my gear cable needed a little tightening and played around with the adjuster. Then, at the bottom of the biggest climb things exploded. I think a pin on the chain dislodged, and it basically got caught in the jockey wheel of the rear derailleur. With no where to go the pressure caused the jockey wheel to snap and the whole derailleur to tear off the frame of the bike.
I might have been able to rig up the chain as a single speed but realised I didn't take my chain tool. Have to ring home for a pick up. Check the mobile- no reception! So had to walk up the hill carrying my bike until I could get a signal, which was not until the top of the hill. Bad.
Within 5 minutes of ringing Em to get a lift, two cars had stopped with the drivers asking if I needed a lift. Now that's two cars on a country road. I think only 4 cars passed during this time. What a great sign of a place where people look out for others. Good.
Good.
Bad.
Kind of go well together.
