Giving Back

I've been doing a lot of mountain biking lately. The trails being so close to home certainly has helped with this. I can basically get a fun ride in that takes only 30 minutes door to door. I have also been doing a bit of raking lately as well. The trails have coped a battering from the winds over the last week, leaving a lot of debris on the tracks. I've cleaned up the skills park and a bit of the trail at my 'backyard' track and today went to the trail maintenance day at the Tathra trails.

It takes quite a bit to keep your local trails the flowing beauties they are. To give you an idea of the level of work that goes into it, I was talking to trail making guru, Andy today and he said that he had, oner the last few days, got about 30 trees that had fallen off the trails (with the help of a chainsaw). And he reckons that others have done about the same. That's a lot of sawing, a lot of carrying a chainsaw down trails for kms. A lot of work.

It was a good turn out today, and it felt great to be cleaning up. There is something so simply rewarding about raking a trail out in the middle of the bush. Nice to be out chatting to like minded people and I even found some trails I hadn't seen before that looked like a lot of fun!

I will feel even better the next time I ride knowing that I had a little to do with the flowing beauty beneath my tires.
