Galibier on a track bike
You may have watched the action from the Giro where they went up the Galibier. Well, almost, they had to reduce the race by 4 km as there was too much snow. In this beautifully made film, watch this guy ride up the beast on a track bike. And then ride down the other side.

Videos
A few videos for the week.
The Absa Cape Epic has just been completed. It is the pinnacle of stage mountain bike racing. It is the kind of race I would love to do "one day'... Some marketing footage for the 2011 race to give some idea of how awesome it would be!
A film by Rick Brayner. It's simple, it's beautiful.
My interest in long boarding continues...

Rainforest Walk
A short video of a walk through Goodania Rainforest, about 20 km inland. As you can see, we were all armed with cameras to record the walk- the walking paparazzi!

Sacrifice
If you had been searching your whole life for something you love, what would you be willing to sacrifice?"

Heimplanet Tent
This tent began as a thought when the founders were on a surf trip in 2003. Many years later they decided to turn their idea into a reality.
It looks great!

Golden
I went for a lunchtime surf today. The local had chest high peelers coming through. The wind was still, light rain drifted down, shrouding the hills of the National Park. Just me out to begin with, then joined by Claude on his longboard. We shared wave after wave, having a laugh at how fortunate we are. Made me think of this song by Band of Frequencies.
'These days are golden, these amazing moments just keep unfolding.'

Adventure
Built single track is great. Beautifully formed berms, flowing trails, a few challenging obstacles. They tend to tell a nicely wrapped up story.
Then there is 'back country' rides. There are lots of these in the UK; following bridleways, they involve map reading, linking things together, epic climbs and usually rocky, seat of your pants descents. They tend to be more primitive. You may have to 'hike a bike' on unridable sections. You usually get a little lost. All of these things add up to more of an adventure. No, the riding may not be as flowy as the bike centre stuff, in fact, there may be very few parts that you would contemplate calling flowy at all! But these types of rides are about more than that, they are about exploring, being out there, adventure.
I'm hoping we can spend a few days in the high country over this summer, where I can look to explore a little back country myself.
In the meantime, here's s little teaser from Torridon, in Scotland...

Ride for Life
Below is a video of a boy called Malcolm. Malcolm is a keen mountain biker. He goes riding with his dad a lot it seems and enjoys downhill runs like the Hellion trail in Maine, seen in this video.
Thing is, Malcolm is 4 years old!
Make sure you turn up the volume. The pure joy he expresses is as wonderful as his impressive skills.
Certain to put a smile on your face.
Dad- Can you see?
Malcolm: No, I don't need to pee!
GOLD!
