I love camping. For many reasons. There is the slightly uncomfortable nature of things- no heating, a thin air mattress, camp chairs. There is the connectivity with the world- you notice the rain, cold, heat, wind. There is also the realisation of how good a time you can have with very little. Then you return home to what you have created as necessities of life. But they are not really, they are just 'things' that may make you a little more comfortable, or that make you feel a little more stylish, or make you feel more like you have 'made it', or allow you to impress your friends.
Nothing wrong with any of that, as long as you recognise that these types of needs come at a cost. Directly, a monetary cost, of course. Then dig deeper. In paying for that, are you in a job you dislike? Or do you 'have' to work too many hours? Or is half the stuff so toxic it's making you and your family slowly ill? Is your consumption making someone else and their family ill? Is paying for all these needs actually trapping you into a life where you simply can't take any risks- you can't afford to?
So, we have food and water. Check. We have shelter. Check. Clothing. Check...
Then really, it's about looking after our soul. Our connections with others. Love.
Look around the house.
What do you need for that?
