Raced the second round of the Perth Mountain Bike Cyclocross Series this afternoon. At registration I asked how fierce B Grade would be. The answer was "You'll be fine!" B-Grade were fierce!! From the get go it was clear I was going to be towards the back end of the race, but, despite the heat and sketchiness of some corners on the road bike (and the VERY high heart rate), I had a blast. Em and the kids, as well as Tony, Pete and Christine came along, so every lap I had a cheer squad calling out. Although, it has to be said that the calls from my lovely wife were more of the abusive variety rather than wholly supportive. I had "Hurry up, you can ride faster than that!" ringing in my ear for half a lap!
They even gave Jack a small cow bell to ring as riders went past as they do in Europe at these types of races. After a couple of laps I started to really enjoy the course, trying to be as smooth as possible and not lose too much ground on those in front.
All in all it was a great atmosphere- and I didn't come last!
