We are coming to the business end of our journey east for a new life. It has been interesting thinking about the different permutations that could befall us as we look for income earning, house, schools, town to ‘house’ all of these things, the list goes on.
We are on the northern stretch of the south coast and on first impressions, I think we have made a good choice of location. The area around Kiama is picture postcard; rolling hills inland the butt up against the Illawara Escarpment, cove after cove along the coast, which encounter the full force of the Pacific Ocean yet provide some respite from the wind and waves, depending on the direction they come from. It’s a beautiful place, if a little out of our price range if we are to make a move that provides an element of financial freedom. The coast south seems similar in many ways, and becomes more rugged (beautiful) and less inhabited, as well as a lot cheaper! So I am looking forward to the next week or so as we begin to explore the area.
There will be no rushed decisions, we have found a short term rental that will give us time to look into the different areas and towns, to feel somewhat settled, to look at real estate and to generally see what is out there.
What has been interesting is that all of this has us questioning and re-questioning what it is that we want. Often I get confused with what I want and what I think I want, or what I think I should want, so I can end up not being sure. With thought, meditation, prayer, I try to break through- it’s not a magazine or movie life I’m after, it’s a life that adds value to those around you, a life that causes no unnecessary harm to others or our world, a life that at times requires discipline to make sure you are being true to yourself and to those around you, a life that is well lived.
All this has little to do with the type of house we live in or the type of car I drive.
It has everything to do with the type of father, husband, brother, son, friend, colleague, human being I strive to be.
So perhaps that needs to be the starting point- what house, job, town will give me/us the best chance to get that right?
