Small journeys

I bought a new coffee machine last week. I was tempted by the incredible automated machines, the ones you place a little sachet in and come out with great coffee in a matter of seconds. Instant heaven.
I didn’t buy one. I bought a machine that requires you to work out the right grind for your coffee and to work out how compact your coffee has to be in the head for a lovely crema. That requires you to take your time to get the right froth in your coffee and to do some cleaning after each coffee.
And if I’m honest, with my limited skills, the automated machine produces better coffee than my efforts. But I enjoy the effort, the time it takes to put it all together.
It’s an incredibly small, pretty insignificant journey I take each morning;
from nothing to a simple coffee.
