Friends

There have been moments in life that I have shared with people that will stay with me forever. Moments of true happiness., of fun and laughter, of experiencing something unique and special.

In reflecting on these moments, I remember those friends I was there with. The faces, the names. They are often but memories because, I have failed to keep in contact with  them. We have gone our separate ways and the busyness of our lives have taken over. Perhaps the connection was not strong enough. Perhaps it was meant for only a moment in time. Perhaps we have changed since that moment, moved in different directions?

I don’t have a problem with this, we still have memories of the moment. The guy who was my best mate for those two weeks of travel will always hold a positive, important place in my memory. And perhaps I will hold a place in his.

And then there are the stayers. I have very few long term friends. Two to be exact. Yet time apart, distance apart, commitments to work and family have not dampened the friendship. Partly, the friendship is easy, the connection is there. Partly, just like with a marriage, we have made an unwritten, unspoken pledge to remain friends. We have made a commitment.

The most important thing is to make sure the value you place on friends plays out in your real life.
